Petty things make sense only to petty minds.
Deep down in her heart, she knew the words held true meaning.
It is true that she is an adolescent.
It is true that she has left her childhood.
It clearly ensues then, that she is no more "little".
Why then, is her mind yet 'petty'?

well...i kind of agree...maturity does tend to scare you a little bit

or in context, it can be put like this-
maturity creates unanswered questions which when left unanswered for really long, tends to scare you.
